Driven by an indomitable passion for combat, Zodd cultivates an ancient rivalry with the legendary Skull Knight. Always questing for the “strongest”, he forged a solid alliance with Griffith, whom he serves with absolute loyalty as an elite warrior within the Reborn Band of the Hawk.
Psychological Profile and Combat Philosophy
Intrepid, fierce, and unyielding, Zodd lives for the art of combat, turning every battle into a relentless quest for the ultimate challenge. His trail counts thousands of victims, and his brutality shows no mercy, even to the weakest opponents.
Yet, he stands out with an atypical code of honor among apostles: he rejects gratuitous cruelty, never surrenders to torture or sadism towards innocents. His sadness stems from his isolation, as no human can match him. He grants well-deserved respect to the rare warriors capable of challenging him, notably Guts and the Skull Knight, his exceptional rivals.
Timeline and Key Events
Golden Age Arc
"If you are truly an ally, beware... When his ambition collapses, death will inevitably follow!"
Prophetic warning by Zodd before the Eclipse.
For over 300 years, nicknamed "Nosferatu," Zodd is an immortal divine warrior who sporadically appears to sow terror on battlefields. He initially serves the Tudor Empire in wars against the Midland kingdom and encounters Guts during a memorable clash at a strategic fortress. Despite his overwhelming strength, he sustains a rare wound inflicted by Guts. Exalted, he reveals his true form and prepares to engage in an epic duel, interrupted at the last moment by Griffith's arrival.
Impressed by Griffith, Zodd recognizes him as "the King's Egg" and postpones his duel with Guts, aware that the White Falcon's fate is tragically tied to their future battle.

During the Battle of Doldrey, aware of Guts' weaknesses, Zodd offers him his broken sword as a sign of help, a gesture heralding the imminent Eclipse. Later, he puts an end to Apostle Wyald's atrocities, confirming his commitment to the Falcon's vision.
At the Fifth Eclipse, although avoiding the massacre, he confronts and is temporarily bested by the Skull Knight, evidencing the depth of their rivalry before allowing Guts and the survivors to escape.
Conviction Arc
Two years after the Eclipse, Zodd slaughters hundreds of mercenaries, expressing boredom with opponents too weak. Still seeking worthy challenges, he travels to Albion, where he reunites with the resurrected Griffith and shows unwavering loyalty by annihilating enemy forces.
Millennium Empire Arc
During fierce battles, Zodd fiercely defends Griffith while challenging Guts in fierce duels. Wearing relentless armor, he commands the Reborn Hawk troops in wars against the Kushan invader and his apostles, notably contributing to the defeat of the witch Flora.
He observes Guts' progress in Berserker Armor and occasionally collaborates with him, pooling their strengths to defeat Emperor Ganishka in a decisive battle.
During the final battle against reconstituted Ganishka, Zodd ferries Griffith into the heart of combat, witnessing the climax of the Great Wave of the Astral World.
Fantasia Arc
In Falconia, Zodd stands on the front line during the Jötnar invasion, bravely fighting a giant hydra. Later, he blocks a surprise attack by Guts, engaging in a new duel before returning to the Hawk's stronghold to prepare for upcoming clashes.

Remarkable Skills and Powers
Expertise with Melee Weapons
With centuries of experience, Zodd wields a wide variety of weapons with formidable skill, though he prefers massive two-handed swords and axes. In combat, he adapts instantly, discarding damaged weapons to fully exploit the next with sharp, relentless efficiency.
Superhuman Strength
Zodd possesses titanic power, capable of easily overwhelming regular apostles. Only a very few, like the Skull Knight, can claim to rival him. In apostle form, his tough skin blocks arrows and projectiles, his horns and claws block assaults, and his devastating strength can shatter stone and concrete. He can hurl armored Guts across an entire battlefield, annihilating enemies and mounts in a single blow.
Exceptional Endurance and Rapid Regeneration
Endowed with phenomenal endurance, Zodd withstands destructive lightning and extreme pain without faltering. When gravely wounded, he can regenerate almost instantly, even reattaching severed limbs to quickly return to battle. However, some metaphysical injuries, such as losing his horns, do not regenerate.
Formidable Flight Capacity
In his unleashed form, Zodd deploys massive wings granting unparalleled aerial agility, increasing his attack speed and ferocity on the battlefield.
Additional Information and Trivia
- According to official *Berserk* data, Zodd measures about 220 cm and weighs 165 kg in human form, and reaches 350 cm and 1001 kg in apostle form (these figures vary by source).
- Contrary to popular belief, the first English voice actor for Zodd was Peter Lurie, not David Brimmer, notably in the video game "Sword of the Berserk: Guts' Rage".
- Known as a "god of the battlefield," Zodd is revered among mercenaries for his endurance and legendary exploits.
- Over three centuries, only Guts and Griffith have inflicted notable injuries on Zodd.
