Ymir stands out with her imposing height, surpassing most of her comrades in the 104th Training Corps, giving her an almost haughty presence. Her golden, slightly slanted eyes exude an intimidating aura. During recruit inspections by Keith Shadis, she is strangely overlooked, reflecting her past struggles. Her brown hair, thicker than in the anime, is tied in a short ponytail, with two strands framing her freckled face. Despite her advanced age, she retains the figure she had before her Titan transformation, with delicate facial features but a strong jawline.
Titan Form
Her pure Titan form retains some human traits while adopting unique characteristics. Her height of about 5 meters makes her the smallest of the Founding Titans. Her skin is darker, and her teeth are square rather than pointed, while she sports straight brown hair and piercing black eyes, enhancing her fierce appearance. This Jaw Titan, also called the Cart Titan or Dancing Titan, is known for its lightning speed and extraordinary agility. Although her body presents a marked disproportion between head and torso, her sharp claws and powerful jaw give her devastating attack strength capable of breaking extremely tough materials. Uniquely among the Founding Titans, the Jaw Titan retains no personal traits of its host.

At first contact, Ymir often appears cynical, opportunistic, and sometimes arrogant, using tactical and manipulative intellect to gain advantage in situations, such as with Sasha Braus. Yet behind this tough facade, she hides deep vulnerability and sincere altruism. For example, she does everything to protect Historia Reiss, pretending to act out of self-interest while truly risking her life. She values sincerity and self-acceptance, encouraging her close ones to assert their true identities.
Her painful past, marked by torture and oppression in Marh, instilled a fierce determination to live free and proud, defying her former tormentors. Her devotion to Historia reveals a deeply caring and protective side, while her ties with Reiner Braun and Bertolt Hoover confirm her human values despite mortal risks.
Background and Personal Story
Orphaned and taken in during childhood by a supposed religious figure, Ymir is raised in an isolated chapel and portrayed as a supposed royal descendant, although she has no blood relation to that lineage. This dedicated cult is arrested by Marh forces.
Transferred to Paradis Island, she is transformed into a pure Titan following an experimental injection, roaming for about 60 years before regaining her human form by devouring Marcel Galliard, thus inheriting the power of the Jaw Titan. Having joined the walls, she leads a life of espionage and hears about Historia Reiss, motivating her military engagement.
Her fate crosses with Ilse Langner, whose notes found by Hange Zoe provide the first crucial clues about Ymir's nature.

Ymir completes her training in the 104th Corps without distinction in the top 10, which Historia laments, suspecting a lack of investment. She then joins the Scout Regiment alongside Historia, assuming a protective role.
Trost Battle
During this crucial battle, Ymir accompanies the squad discovering Armin Arlelt in a state of hysteria. Her mocking attitude toward him triggers a dispute with Conny Springer, quickly calmed by Historia. She asks Historia to marry her, marking a deep bond between them. Throughout the battle, she supports the retreat and strategic maneuvers.
Female Titan Arc and Clash of the Titans
Ymir participates in the 57th expedition beyond the walls, effectively defending the forest against Titan intrusions. She questions Bertolt Hoover about Historia's whereabouts. Despite suspicions about her concerning Annie Leonhart, her presence and role remain decisive. During the collapse of the Rose Wall, she plays a strategic part in protecting survivors and helps Reiner Braun in a fight against a Titan before transforming into the Jaw Titan to save her comrades, at the cost of severe injuries.
