In the latest episode of the reboot Sailor Moon Crystal titled Sailor Moon Cosmos, Usagi and her companions experience a period of apparent calm. However, this peace is shattered when Mamoru Chiba, Usagi’s beloved, mysteriously disappears. This disappearance is orchestrated by Sailor Galaxia, one of the most fearsome Sailor Guardians, with a ruthless temperament, whose goal is to seize the precious Sailor Crystals held by her peers, the other Senshi. Without her usual allies by her side, Usagi must rely on a new ally, the young and enigmatic Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon, who is revealed to be, in truth, Sailor Cosmos, the future and powerful version of Sailor Moon.
How did Sailor Galaxia take control of the galaxy?
The most epic battle of Sailor Moon: the fall of Sailor Galaxia
Sailor Galaxia comes from a distant and little-known planet once ravaged by war, cruelty, and injustice. Traumatised and abandoned by those the Sailor Guardians were meant to protect, she harbors a deep hatred towards humanity and even her own people. Without remorse, she destroys her home planet in an instant, considering its inhabitants unworthy and useless. She then roams the galaxy searching for a new home, finding no planet worthy of survival, deeming them all deserving extinction.
Under the influence of Wiseman, a dark agent of Chaos, Sailor Galaxia discovers the Zero Star of Sagittarius, the sacred sanctuary known as the Galactic Cauldron, the sacred cradle of star creation. She then forms the legendary Shadow Galactica, a faction of Sailor Guardians attracted by either fear or ambition, ready to help her strengthen her power. Together, they travel the galaxy, stealing precious Sailor Crystals and annihilating entire worlds, their power growing as Senshi fall one by one.
Upon arriving on Earth, Sailor Galaxia steals the Golden Crystal from Mamoru Chiba as he prepares to bid farewell to Usagi at the airport. Mamoru suddenly disappears under Usagi’s helpless gaze, who initially believes he has departed for the United States. In her quest for power, Galaxia eliminates several Senshi: she kills Sailor Venus and Sailor Mars to seize their Crystals, while Sailor Aluminium Siren assassinates Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter. Even the powerful Outer Senshi cannot resist her fury.
During these tragic events, Sailor Moon meets the mysterious Sailor Starlights, a group of warriors searching for their lost princess after Galaxia destroyed their home planet. Usagi painfully learns that Mamoru was killed by Sailor Galaxia. Together with the Starlights, they understand they must unite their courage and strength to put an end to Shadow Galactica and bring back to life those fallen in battle.
When and how does Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon appear?
A mysterious little girl descended from the stars
As Sailor Galaxia’s invasion of Earth approaches, a bright beam of light pierces the night sky. A little girl, named Chibi Chibi, gently lands on the ground holding an umbrella, desperately seeking someone. Using her mysterious powers, she locates the lost princess Kakyuu and, to escape her enemies, pretends to be Usagi’s youngest daughter, even bewitching her mother. Under this ordinary appearance, Chibi Chibi struggles to remember her hidden past.
Later, the Sailor Starlights visit Usagi and briefly notice Chibi Chibi’s angel wings. The girl confides that she protects Princess Kakyuu, missing after the destruction of their homeland. During a peaceful park stroll, Sailor Galaxia appears in civilian clothes, triggering an intense confrontation.
The scene around Usagi and Chibi Chibi catches fire and collapses under the tension. Although Usagi is then unable to transform, Chibi Chibi unleashes her powers to repel Galaxia’s attack, displaying her hidden strength.
The transformation of Chibi Chibi into Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon
After this pivotal episode, Chibi Chibi recovers her lost memories and discovers she can now transform into Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon. Accompanied by Sailor Kakyuu and the brave Sailor Starlights, she joins Sailor Moon to lead the decisive battle to conquer the Zero Star of Sagittarius and face the ruthless Sailor Galaxia. Their journey is fraught with obstacles: on their way through the River of the Desert of Oblivion, they encounter the twin Sailor Lethe and Sailor Mnemosyne, involved with Shadow Galactica after their original planets’ destruction.
Although Sailor Lethe attempts to assassinate Usagi, her sister Sailor Mnemosyne opposes her in a moment of hope, dreaming of ending the conflict. Unfortunately, these twins are brutally eliminated by Sailor Phi, victoriously aided by the Sailor Starlights. Later, Princess Kakyuu succumbs to attacks by Sailor Chi and Sailor Phi, a hard blow for the defenders, especially Sailor Chibi Moon.
Who is really Sailor Cosmos?
Sailor Moon, the very embodiment of hope for the future
Contrary to expectations, Sailor Chibi Moon does not fight alongside Sailor Moon during the attack of the Inner and Outer Senshi clones. She plays a crucial role by trying to persuade Chibi Chibi Moon to express to Usagi that, despite the immense pain of the battles, she must never give up. Thanks to this emotional support, Sailor Chibi Moon manages to draw on her courage and protect Usagi during the ultimate duel against Sailor Galaxia.
As in their previous encounter in the park, Sailor Galaxia provokes Sailor Moon, trying to exploit her loyalty and emotions to destabilize her. For Galaxia, only her own power counts: she does not hesitate to eliminate her protégées and secretly plans to betray even Chaos once she is strong enough.
But her master, Wiseman, anticipates this betrayal. As Chaos intensifies, ever more threatening, Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon leaves her child form behind and finally reveals her true identity: she is actually Sailor Cosmos, the future incarnation of Sailor Moon, coming from a distant future.
Sailor Cosmos comes from a distant future ravaged by Sailor Chaos, an evil incarnation of Chaos sowing destruction and despair throughout the universe. Having lost all hope, Sailor Cosmos concentrates her strength to try to change the past, particularly by protecting her younger self. In her Chibi Chibi form, she returns to persuade Usagi not only to defeat Chaos but also to end the Galactic Cauldron.
In the Sailor Moon universe, the Galactic Cauldron is the sacred cradle of stars and the source of eternal life for the galaxy, capable of resurrecting the Sailor Guardians fallen in battle. Despite Sailor Cosmos's insistent request, Usagi refuses to destroy the Cauldron, affirming she will protect the natural cycle of life in the cosmos.
Drawing on the power of all the united Sailor Crystals, Sailor Moon plunges into the Galactic Cauldron, engulfing Sailor Chaos with her. This sacrifice greatly weakens cosmic Chaos, although young Sailor Cosmos knows this threat will eventually reemerge. Thanks to this heroic act, hope is reborn, and Sailor Cosmos returns to her future, her heart filled with gratitude and optimism for what lies ahead.
