Bleach far exceeds the status of a mere popular shonen anime; it stands as a true iconic and influential monument in the anime world.
Its legacy, notably through the grandeur of its battles, remains the clearest proof of its lasting impact. These powerful fights have continued to leave a mark well beyond the limits of the original anime and manga series, even during quieter periods of the franchise. Although Bleach has sometimes faced criticism, the exceptional quality of its fight scenes has rarely been questioned.

In terms of innovative animation and visual intensity, even the early episodes of Bleach can match the most recent shonen productions. What fundamentally differentiates the battles of Ichigo Kurosaki and his companions is the richness of the underlying narrative context. Without these deep and masterfully crafted story arcs, even the most stylized fight scenes would lose much of their emotional power. It is precisely this dense storytelling combined with finely developed characters that makes Bleach an emblematic reference in global popular culture.
10. Lost Agent Arc: a true rebirth for Bleach battles
Key battle: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Kugo Ginjo
The last arc aired before the long hiatus in 2012, commonly called the "Fullbring Arc," is often underrated even by the most passionate Bleach fans. Yet, this arc succeeded in injecting new life into the animation and overall quality, reaching a remarkable peak during this period.
Responding to criticisms regarding excessive censorship and filler content in the anime, this arc offered more technical and dynamic confrontations, pitting the formidable Shinigamis against the enigmatic Fullbringers. Unfortunately, the rich potential of the Fullbringers was cut short, with their fate resolved too quickly.
9. Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 2: an adaptation that enhances the plot
Iconic battle: Senjumaru Shutara (winner) vs. The Schutzstaffel
Visually, the second part of the Thousand-Year Blood War is near perfection. The intensity of classic Shinigami powers combined with the Vollständig of the Sternritters is rendered with great graphic mastery. Several new battles were even created specifically for the anime, compensating for some less developed manga passages.
However, despite this visual richness, this arc suffers from a lack of dramatic tension and insufficient antagonist development, particularly the Sternritters. The Shinigami's displayed superiority sometimes feels too easy, notably thanks to the overpowering inventions of the genius Kisuke Urahara. Nonetheless, this adaptation remains decisively superior to the original printed version.

8. Arrancar Part 6: a renewal of stakes and protagonists
Notable battle: Ikkaku Madarame (winner) vs. Edrad Liones
The first half of the Arrancar arc highlights Aizen as the main antagonist, confirmed with the following battles. The introduction of the Espada and the Visoreds at Karakura energizes the plot, but the most attention-catching fight remains that between Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and his team against the Shinigamis.
These duels demonstrate the power of the different factions and set the stage for the intense war to come in Bleach. Additionally, the Visoreds play a key role in helping Ichigo master his inner Hollow. Although this arc is less spectacular than some of the later ones, it forms an essential prelude to the main saga.
7. Arrancar Part 4: the struggle between Arrancars and Soul Reapers, deep development through combat
Essential battle: Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi (winner) vs. Szayelaporro Granz
In this transitional segment, Ichigo and his allies are propelled toward a crucial stage of the story, offering a series of intense battles. The most powerful warriors of Bleach appear in Hueco Mundo, disrupting the story’s balance.
While each battle benefits from remarkable staging, particular focus is placed on the psychological progression of the characters. The Gotei 13 captains gain importance, enriching the series' narrative and emotional complexity.
6. Arrancar Part 3: intense confrontations that reinforce the series’ reputation
Iconic fight: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, round 3
The Arrancar arc reaches its peak when heroes face the Espada directly. True to its name, "The Fierce Battle" is full of passionate duels with high emotional intensity between formidable protagonists and antagonists.
Considered an almost perfect arc, it highlights heroes and villains at their peak. The animation enhances every decisive confrontation, where balance and drama remain constant — the only downside being the prolonged duration of this war, which sometimes slowed the pacing.
5. Soul Society Part 1: the gateway to intense and decisive battles
Remarkable fight: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Captain Zaraki Kenpachi
Though positioned in the second season, this introductory arc reveals to Ichigo and his companions the colossal scale of the conflict ahead. By declaring war on the Soul Society, they enter a world inhabited by formidable warriors, leading to battles of exceptional intensity.
Though the animation was still evolving, the power of the confrontations, notably between Ichigo and Captain Kenpachi, is fully felt, marking a decisive turning point in the story.
4. Soul Society Part 2: rescue enriches character depth
Notable battle: Sosuke Aizen (winner) vs. Ichigo Kurosaki
The second half of this arc is marked by deeper personality revelations. Ichigo finally masters his Bankai, dominating Byakuya Kuchiki, while Ishida defends Quincy honor against Mayuri Kurotsuchi, and Renji shows loyalty to Ichigo.
Yet, Aizen remains the focus, embodying an iconic antagonist. Despite the brevity and imbalance of his fights, he left an indelible mark in the shonen anime world, and his influence remains intact.
3. Arrancar Part 6: the fall of the Espadas savors a memorable finale
Key battle: Ichigo Kurosaki (winner) vs. Ulquiorra Cifer
Considered the climax of the great Arrancar saga, this arc highlights the extraordinary power of the top Espadas. Ichigo faces his most formidable foes, notably Ulquiorra Cifer and Sosuke Aizen.
These long, grueling, and emotionally charged duels underline the strength of these elite enemies. Each antagonist benefits from a deeply personal backstory, giving intense emotional weight to this arc. Though sometimes underestimated today, it remains essential compared to the improvements in later arcs.

2. Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 1: a spectacular triumph after nine years away
Legendary battle: “Emperor Yhwach” (winner) vs. Captain-Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto
After a long nearly decade-long hiatus, the series returned strongly with the highly anticipated yet controversial anime adaptation of the manga finale. The Thousand-Year Blood War bore the heavy responsibility of satisfying fans, which it brilliantly achieved, bringing Bleach back to its highest level.
Produced by Studio Pierrot Films, this final arc energizes the series with ultra-modern animation and grand staging. The fights, more intense than ever, raise the stakes to an unprecedented scale. The invasion of the Soul Society by the Wandenreich is one of the most captivating and terrifying moments of the entire saga.
1. Thousand-Year Blood War, Part 3: the undeniable peak of Bleach battles
Major battle: Uryu Ishida (winner) vs. Ichigo Kurosaki, round 1
This last part concentrates the summit of fights and animation quality in Bleach. “The Conflict” brings together the most powerful combatants of the Soul Reapers and the Quincies, offering battles both epic and emotionally intense.
“The Conflict” offers some of the most passionate and personal duels, notably between Ichigo and Ishida. Only the final arc titled “The Calamity” could claim to surpass this part in terms of animation and narrative depth. In light of upcoming battles, however, this supremacy seems inevitable.
