Characteristics & Personality
Nappa is an elite Saiyan warrior, loyal to young Prince Vegeta. Known for his ferocity and aggression, he is the embodiment of brutality on the battlefield. Although ranked below Vegeta in Frieza's hierarchy, his combat power is estimated around 4,000 units, making him a formidable adversary.
Approximately 50 years old, Nappa wears the signature scouter of Frieza's soldiers. Upon landing on Earth, he immediately demonstrates his destructive temperament by ordering the annihilation of an entire city. His arrogance and cruelty are legendary, though his lack of strategy proves to be a major handicap when fighting Goku.
Biography
Nappa has accompanied Vegeta since youth, acting both as bodyguard and mentor to the Saiyan prince. Together, they witnessed the tragic destruction of their homeworld, Planet Vegeta, by Frieza, an event that sealed their alliance and steeled their survival instinct.
Saiyan Saga (Dragon Ball Z)
After intercepting a crucial conversation between Raditz and Piccolo, Nappa and Vegeta travel to Earth to collect the Dragon Balls and gain immortality. Upon arrival, Nappa wastes no time sowing chaos by destroying a city, prompting Vegeta—concerned about the safety of the Dragon Balls—to rein him in.
They confront Piccolo, Gohan, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu. Nappa unleashes six Saibamen to test Earth's defenders: most are eliminated, but Krillin survives while Piccolo finishes the last one. In direct combat, Nappa inflicts heavy casualties, including severing Tien's arm. Vegeta interrupts the fight upon sensing Kakarot's (Goku's) growing power.
Despite his destructive attacks, Nappa is overwhelmed by Goku—whose power greatly exceeds his own. Unable to keep up, Nappa's fury leads to blunders, and Vegeta ultimately orders him to withdraw when he threatens Gohan and Krillin, who are saved by Goku's Kaioken.
Battered, Nappa begs Vegeta for help, but the prince, merciless as ever, eliminates him without hesitation, displaying cruelty even toward close allies.
Later Appearances
- In Dragon Ball Super, Nappa appears as an illusion during Goku and Krillin's quest for the Paradise Herb—a memory that vanishes when Krillin overcomes his fears.
- In Dragon Ball GT, he briefly escapes from Hell during the Super #17 saga, but is quickly put down by Vegeta.
- He is seen in Hell among other villains, easily dominated by Piccolo.
