Physical Appearance
Lim Tae-Gyu is a young man whose messy black hair frames a face marked by a finely trimmed small goatee. During his early appearances, he wears an elegant black tuxedo, symbolizing his serious character and high social status. In the famous battle on Jeju Island, he opts for a more functional outfit: sturdy brown armor complemented by a matching hat, while wielding a gleaming light golden bow, a true extension of his exceptional archery mastery.
In the revised timeline, Lim largely retains the same appearance, although his hair is now longer, elegantly falling to the middle of his back, reflecting a subtle but significant evolution in his style and growing maturity.
Personality
Despite his high rank as an S-Rank hunter and apparent wealth, Lim Tae-Gyu shows some hesitation about his own abilities. He harbors a lack of confidence, secretly hoping his Japanese S-rank counterparts will show leniency during the fierce 4v4 team battle. However, beyond these doubts, he scrupulously executes his missions, facing each challenge with rigorous discipline. His somewhat stingy nature manifests in his pragmatic management of his guild’s resources, where he enforces strict protection of Lee Minsung, aware of the strategic and personal value he represents.
In the alternative timeline version, Lim gains confidence and adopts a firmer and more distant stance towards Minsung, struck by his disappointment with his former master. Despite this, he fiercely defends his vice guild leader when the Korean Association tries to arrest him, demonstrating loyalty mixed with a deep sense of justice. Despite the tensions, he genuinely values Minsung’s friendship and categorically refuses to harm him.
History
At the creation of the powerful Demon Guild, Lim Tae-Gyu was naturally appointed master, leading this feared faction that firmly dominated the hunter landscape in South Korea. However, this supremacy was challenged when Baek Yoonho and a group of high-ranking fugitives decided to found the brand new and influential White Tiger Guild, causing a gradual decline of Lim’s authority and his original guild.
Jeju Island Arc
During the famous 4v4 showdown between Korean hunters and their Japanese counterparts, Lim battled the formidable Minoru Hoshino. Although he momentarily forced his opponent into a defensive stance, Lim was quickly outmatched by his technical superiority and eliminated from the fight. The lightning speed and power of Goto Ryuji and Sung Jinwoo during their training deeply impressed Lim, highlighting the colossal gap between the forces involved.
Before the decisive assault on Jeju, Lim took the strategic precaution of ordering his guild to protect Minsung at all costs, strategically placing him in reserve. Shortly after, it was Korean S-rank hunters who were parachuted onto the island to carry out the crucial mission of eliminating the fearsome Ant Queen during the fourth raid.
Ragnarök
In the post-Great Cataclysm era, Lim Tae-Gyu played an important role as Minsung’s dedicated driver, watching over his affairs during his past glory. He later rose to the prestigious rank of S-rank hunter and encouraged Minsung to head a new formation: the Reapers Guild. While Minsung skillfully managed administrative aspects, Lim ensured operational management in the field, thereby strengthening the guild’s solid foundations.
Over time, Lim gradually discovered Minsung’s illicit activities, trying several times to put an end to these questionable maneuvers. During a perilous raid in Southeast Asia, he pressured Minsung to break ties with criminal elements before cutting off communication definitively. Back in the country, under constant pressure from the Hunters Association, Lim forced Minsung to close the Paju Field dungeon. His visit to the Association’s headquarters was the occasion for Tiel to offer him a new opportunity by inviting him to join his guild.
Meanwhile, a friendly quarrel with Choi Jong-In marked a moment of relaxation before Lim recognized the moral collapse of his vice leader. After witnessing the feats of an A-rank hunter in battle, Lim intervened to help hunters in difficulty, then pursued Minsung while he was on the run. He crossed paths with Sung Suho in an intense confrontation against a transformed Minsung, fired several warning shots, then tried in vain to neutralize his former ally but was distracted by a phantom enemy, missing his target.
Abilities and Skills
Recognized as the most powerful ranger in Korea, Lim Tae-Gyu excels in combat even when fighting without his bow. However, his specialty remains unquestionably ranged attacks, where he demonstrates remarkable effectiveness. Conversely, he is less comfortable in close combat, a weakness in intense duels. Despite his prestigious rank, Lim is considered by some as a rather mediocre hunter for an S-rank, possibly one of the weakest among the world elites.
