Jiji holds a central role in the series as Momo Ayase’s childhood friend and, unbeknownst to him, her first true love. After a long separation following Momo’s departure, fate reunites them years later when he enrolls at Kami High School. Their reunion occurs under unusual circumstances when Jiji seeks help from Momo’s grandmother, Seiko Ayase, to exorcise a disturbing evil eye haunting his home. This supernatural curse causes Jiji to become the host of a powerful yokai. After Okarun manages to control this malevolent entity, Jiji joins the close circle of allies devoted to supporting Momo and Okarun in their quest to recover Okarun’s kintama.

Physical Appearance
Jiji stands out with his imposing build: very tall and muscular, he even surpasses his own parents in stature. His hair is short, naturally light brown, styled with a slight fringe that exposes the center of his forehead. His deep brown eyes, combined with his innate charisma, easily attract female classmates at school.
During his early appearances, he often wears a sporty tracksuit paired with a tank top, highlighting his casual style. In a school environment, his serious look is marked by a collared shirt, a neatly tied tie, jeans held by a sturdy belt, and the official school blazer. Notably, he sports dark hoop earrings, reflecting a contemporary rebellious spirit that gives him a trendy and unique flair.
Personality Traits
Endearing due to his very energetic temperament, Jiji is constantly on the move, expressing himself vividly through dynamic gestures and expressive facial expressions. He frequently punctuates his speech with characteristic verbal tics such as “Fuuuuu” or “Fuuuuwaaaatsu,” enhancing his exuberant, almost irresistible charm.
While many find him charming and amusing, some of his peers, including Seiko Ayase, Momo’s grandmother, sometimes view him as a fool. Nevertheless, she never misses an ironic opportunity to call him a “genius,” as his atypical and quirky personality leaves a strong impression.
Conversely, Jiji is also a true playboy at school: upon being introduced to Momo’s friends, he quickly asks for the number of a girl he immediately finds charming, multiplying teasing and playing on his natural confidence to seduce.
However, behind this slightly flirtatious facade hides a pure heart. After their long separation, when he reunites with Momo, he sincerely apologizes for past mockeries and shows real devotion by heroically protecting her from an unexpected threat—a living entity resembling an enormous anatomical model about to charge at her.
History and Origins
In his youth, Jiji shared a sincere friendship with Momo Ayase and was unaware that he had secretly fallen in love with her. This relationship soured when he mocked a ritual Momo performed with the help of her grandmother Seiko Ayase to control her mediumistic gift, causing their gradual estrangement. Shortly after, Momo’s family moved to a mountainous region, increasing the distance and deepening their separation.
Things took a troubling turn when Jiji began experiencing strange phenomena at home, which he initially refused to take seriously, especially as his parents remained skeptical of his accounts. These supernatural manifestations quickly worsened, until a malevolent spirit haunted him even in his dreams, seriously disturbing his sleep. The situation escalated with the illness and hospitalization of his parents.
Amid this dramatic context, the family called several mediums to attempt an exorcism, but the curse seemed too powerful: three exorcists committed suicide, worsening the crisis. Finally, as a last resort, they appealed to Seiko Ayase, who agreed to temporarily host Jiji to try to banish this supernatural plague.

Marked by the presence of the evil eye haunting him, Jiji acquires the unique ability to perceive spirits and entities invisible to the ordinary human eye. This skill becomes essential in the yokai-populated world, where clairvoyance is an indispensable asset.

Jiji possesses considerable ki reserves, granting him valuable spiritual power that attracts malevolent spirits. Under the rigorous tutelage of Seiko Ayase, he learns to channel this ki to temporarily seal the Evil Eye residing within him, particularly when in contact with very cold elements. However, this control demands a significant energy sacrifice, causing intense fatigue.
Special Techniques
Ha Wave
The Ha Wave technique allows Jiji to concentrate and release an invisible ki explosion. This wave pushes back any obstacle in its path, offering a significant tactical advantage. Practically, he joins his hands, channels his energy, then projects a powerful wave at a distance against his opponents. Despite its usefulness, Aira notes that this attack, while effective at repelling, lacks enough power alone to seriously injure the toughest enemies.
Evil Gun
This amplified version of Ha Wave is called the “Evil Gun.” By pronouncing these magical words, Jiji unleashes a powerful beam of concentrated destructive energy emanating from his hands. He successfully used it to free Aira during a fight against formidable cosmic enemies, demonstrating its value in critical situations.
