Distinctive Traits and Behavior

The Grand Priest is famous for his serene, composed temperament and exemplary politeness. Unlike some of his subordinates or Zen'ô’s direct assistants, he exudes a warm and relaxed presence, making him approachable despite his high divine rank. His amused gaze at the sometimes bold and unpredictable actions of Son Gokû before Zen'ô attests to his keen observational sense and subtle humor.

Despite his often relaxed demeanor, the Daishinkan is capable of impressive authority and uncompromising seriousness when it comes to intervening, notably to control formidable personalities like Beerus or to calm Son Gokû in critical moments.

It is also notable that he shows no fear whatsoever towards Zen'ô, even when interrupting an intense battle between powerful warriors like Son Gokû and Toppo, while the supreme ruler wished to prolong the duel. This role alongside Zen'ô is shrouded in mystery, especially as he sometimes speaks on Zen'ô’s behalf during major events such as the Tournament of Power.

Physically, the Grand Priest displays a slender and delicate silhouette. His characteristic pale blue skin is accentuated by intense purple iris eyes and white hair, features that highlight his relation to figures like Whis or Vados, belonging to the same angelic lineage. A blue halo floats behind his head, a distinctive symbol of his divine authority, contrasting with the halos worn around the neck by his descendants. His attire includes a deep blue-green robe decorated with an orange triangle on the chest, accompanied by a belt bearing a kanji meaning “Great,” attesting to his high rank.

Biography and Origins

Background and Mysteries

The origins of the Grand Priest remain shrouded in mystery. What is known for sure is that he has faithfully served King Zen’ô for millennia, playing a crucial role as advisor and spiritual guide. He is the father of thirteen angels, all scattered across the twelve universes to enlighten and support their respective Gods of Destruction.

In the universe of Dragon Ball Super, his power ranks among the top five across the multiverse, while the anime designates him as the number one warrior, surpassing all other beings.

Dragon Ball Super: Future Trunks Arc

The Daishinkan first appears in this arc, intervening during Son Gokû’s quest to understand the nature of the fearsome Black Gokû. Although he remains discreet, Whis emphasizes his enormous power, ensuring that his rank remains clear at the top of the hierarchy.

During this meeting, the Grand Priest receives Whis, Son Gokû, and Shin after a summons from Zen’ô. While Shin and Whis appear to have a long relationship with him, it is Son Gokû’s first acquaintance with this divine figure. The Daishinkan leads them to the majestic hall where Zen’ô sits. Moreover, Whis warns Son Gokû, explaining that even he is among the five most powerful fighters, but the Grand Priest’s power remains unreachable, prompting Son Gokû to consider a challenge, quickly tempered by Whis.

Throughout the events, Son Gokû develops an unexpected friendly relationship with Zen’ô; a relationship the Grand Priest observes with amusement, considering it favorable despite the concerns of the assistants and Kaiô Shin regarding the capricious nature of the sovereign. After their interview, the Daishinkan warmly bids them farewell.

Following the defeat of Fusion Zamasu, when Zamasu from Universe 10 is vanquished, Son Gokû asks Shin to bring him to Zen’ô’s Palace to present the other Zen’ô, who comes from the future and was brought back by Trunks. The encounter between these two sovereigns marks a new chapter, deeply pleasing the Grand Priest. Curious, he questions Whis about the origin of this initiative, which is attributed to him, arousing friendly jealousy towards Universe 7 and a desire to visit it soon.

Survival of the Universes Arc

In this saga, the role of the Grand Priest is central and perfectly highlighted. When Son Gokû contacts Zen’ô via the Call Button, it is Daishinkan who welcomes him and guides him before the two sovereigns. Son Gokû then recalls a promise made to the current Zen’ô: to organize a tournament gathering the 12 universes before leaving.

He goes to Universe 7’s Kaioshin Planet to announce the launch of the opening match, opposing Universe 7’s team against Universe 9’s, carefully detailing the specific rules for this first confrontation.

The announcement that defeated universes will be completely annihilated causes shockwaves. The Grand Priest informs Universe 7’s representatives that they have one hour to select three fighters. He also specifies the tournament’s date, which will take place in the mysterious Void World, emphasizing that only the ultimate winners will receive the coveted Super Dragon Balls as a reward, while the opening match will have no prize.

An hour later, he receives the teams at Zen’ô’s palace where all participants salute his authority. He personally creates the arena for the opening fight and summons all Gods of Destruction, angels, and Kaiô-Shins of the 12 universes to witness this spectacular event designed to impress future Zen’ô.

Before the competition begins, he stresses to Rô, Kaiô Shin of Universe 9, that their universe’s survival depends on the spectacle offered, clarifying that no reward will be granted to the opening duel’s winner.

After the fight between Son Gohan and Lavenda, the Grand Priest reveals to the divine assembly that the Tournament of Power aims to eliminate several universes, and that only the winner and the four exempt universes (1, 5, 8, and 12) will be spared.

He explains that Zen’ô considers the total number of universes too high. Those with an average strength above 7 are excluded from the tournament because their continuity is guaranteed, while Universes 7 and 9, considered the weakest, face off in the opening match, heightening the crucial stakes of their survival.

It is added that Gods of Destruction and Kaiô-Shins will be erased with their respective universes, unlike angels, who are protected by their divine status. Whis explains to Beerus that this distinction comes from their specific hierarchical position.

During the tournament, the Grand Priest frequently intervenes: he announces the gradual disappearance of eliminated universes and signals each individual elimination of fighters.

At the end of the competition, following a wish made by No. 17, he reveals to Beerus, Shin, and Rô Kaiô Shin that Zen’ô had anticipated the use of the Super Dragon Balls to resurrect the destroyed universes; otherwise, the supreme ruler would have proceeded to destroy the winning universe himself.

Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc

When Whis goes to Zen’ô’s palace, the Grand Priest accompanies him, mentioning the growing instability of Universe 7. He wonders about the nature of Whis’s visit, which turns out to be a simple check related to the Angels’ Law rules against increasing threats embodied by Moro and his group.

The Grand Priest confirms the identity of the angel Merus, explaining that he sent him as an apprentice to Universe 7 for better understanding. However, Merus joined the Galactic Patrol, potentially violating the strict neutrality imposed on angels, especially if he uses his angelic powers.

Faced with this delicate situation, Daishinkan considers recalling Merus, but Whis dissuades him, pleading for flexible management of this unique case.

Power and Abilities

In episode 55 of Dragon Ball Super, Whis warns Son Gokû not to underestimate the Grand Priest, reminding that even he does not dare to claim rivaling him in combat. Daishinkan is indisputably one of the five most powerful warriors across all universes, and in the anime, he is described as the strongest in the multiverse.

His mere presence, amplified by a piercing gaze, can evoke fear and profound respect in entities as powerful as Beerus, illustrating his overwhelming authority and formidable power.
